Two drawings by Michael Avetov (1895 - 1972)

Mikhail Nikitich Avetov (born Mikael Mkrtichevich Avetov) was a Russian artist of Armenian descent.

Born January 2, 1895, in Kizyl-Arvat (Askhabad District, Transcaspian Region, Russian Empire), he died in 1972 in Moscow.

Education: From 1915 to 1916, he studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts in the classes of N.K. Roerich and A.A. Rylov; from 1917 to 1918, he studied under D.N. Kardovsky at the Academy of Arts in Petrograd.

He lived and worked in St. Petersburg and Moscow. From 1918 to 1920, he travelled throughout Central Asia and the Far East. He was a member of the artistic associations "Moscow Painters" (1925), "Bytie" (1926–1929), and "Moscow Artists" (1930–1932).

He worked as a painter, producing landscapes, portraits, and thematic canvases. His later works adhere to the canons of socialist realism. His works are held in a number of museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Rustam Mustafayev Azerbaijan State Art Museum in Baku.
